Gear is only half of it. These short guides cover the knowledge that keeps scenes fun, safe, and repeatable — written for beginners, useful for everyone.
Safety
Kink 101: Consent, negotiation & safewords
Everything starts before the scene. Negotiate boundaries in plain terms while everyone is sober and calm: what's in, what's out, and what needs checking in on. Agree on a safeword (the traffic-light system — green, yellow, red — is a scene standard) and a nonverbal signal for when mouths are occupied. Aftercare isn't optional: plan for water, warmth, and check-ins in the hours and days after.
Beginners
Impact play for beginners
Start light and aim for meaty targets — glutes and upper thighs. Never strike the spine, kidneys, neck, or joints. Warm up with hands before reaching for a paddle, and build intensity gradually while checking in. Silicone paddles like THUD give a deep, thuddy hit; leather tends to sting. Agree on scale (1–10) so feedback stays precise.
Sizing
Sizing harnesses, cuffs & collars
Measure snug, not tight. Collars: measure the neck where it will sit and add one finger's width. Wrist cuffs: measure the wrist bone circumference; between sizes, size up — padding compresses. Harnesses: measure chest at the widest point under the arms; adjustable buckles usually cover 10–15cm of range. When in doubt, adjustable beats fitted.
Care
Leather care: make gear last a decade
Wipe down after every scene with a damp cloth and let it air dry away from heat. Condition full-grain leather monthly with a pH-balanced leather conditioner. Never soak leather, never machine wash. Store flat or hung, away from sunlight. Neoprene hoods can be hand-washed cold with mild soap — air dry inside-out.
Care
Lube 101: water, silicone & hybrid
Water-based lube is the universal choice: safe with every toy material and every condom. Silicone lube lasts longer and is great for water play, but it degrades silicone toys — never mix the two. Hybrids split the difference. Whatever you choose, use more than you think you need, and reapply often.
Safety
Bondage safety: circulation & nerves
Restraints should be snug, never tight — you should fit two fingers under a cuff. Check hands and feet every few minutes for coldness, tingling, or color change, and release immediately if any appear. Keep safety shears within reach of the top. Never leave a restrained person alone, and never tie around the front of the neck.
